WOMAN IN THE WORLD OF WINE
07.07.2021

In a world traditionally dominated by men, women have taken on an increasingly dominant role, influencing and even revolutionizing the world of wine.
Wine has always been a predominantly male drink, in ancient Greek symposia were spaces where men gathered with the aim of talking and drinking, without the presence of women.
Fortunately times have changed, with the emancipation of Women, she came to occupy a more prominent role in society, moving from a passive participation in relation to wine, to a posture of greater interest and knowledge, influenced by the presence of this drink in her social and of business.
Some of the most successful and prestigious wine producers in the world have female figures in their leadership, such as Fattoria dei Barbi (Italy), Lidio Carraro (Brazil), Veuve Cliquot (France), Filipa Pato (Portugal), Casa Marín (Chile ), Clerc Milon (France), Braida (Italy), among many other examples.
Nowadays, there are more and more women entering the Wine World, as sommeliers, oenologists, researchers, or simply as consumers. In the past, it was very rare for women to ask for the wine list, this was a task for the man at the table, nowadays, many women do it with high knowledge and ownership.
According to recent data, women currently represent 64% of US wine consumers.
Several studies reveal that, in general, women drink wine for pure fun, without major concerns about ratings or criticism. Women are mainly concerned with the context in which they will share the wine. They will not choose the same wine to drink at home or have lunch with a customer.

In turn, men prefer to choose wines according to ratings and awards, looking for labels, prestige, wines that impress. Women are more practical, they buy wine to share, to emotionally engage their guests.

Also in terms of taste, women have an advantage over men, since they have a greater number of taste buds, which makes them better tasters.
I have already had the happiness of tasting great wines made by “handful” oenologists, in which their vigor and complexity had been “honed” by the mastery and sensitivity of the female sense.
I believe that, as in other sectors of activity, the World of Wine would also be much poorer without the presence of Women.

As a tribute to all the Women who love Wine, nothing better than tasting the magnificent wines of Casa D'Almear and the Bebes.Comes, which can be purchased at the Donum Store - online store -www.donum.pt .

As the poet would say: “Women are the future of Man”.
Wine Greetings
